Configuration Steps

Site sync provides replication of system snapshots to a separate VergeOS system; this allows off-site data backup, facilitating disaster recovery and business continuity.

Important Terms

Source Cluster - The cluster from which replication data is sent. This is the cluster being backed up.

Destination Cluster - The cluster that receives the replicated data. This is where backups are stored.

For successful replication, the following inbound ports must be accessible on the source cluster from the public internet:

443 - Used for replication diagnostics and site management

14201 - Used for vSAN block level data transfer

IP Whitelisting is recommended for additional security.

It's recommended to Create a Certificate prior to configuring replication.

Verify Site Settings

The following steps must be performed on both the source and destination clusters.

From the Top Menu, click System -> Settings

From the left menu, click Edit

Set URL to the FQDN of the cluster (e.g., https://west1.korgrid.com, https://hq.acme.com, etc.)

Set vSAN Host to the DNS name or IP address of the VSAN (e.g., vsan.hq.acme.com, 24.221.112.159, etc.)

Click Submit

Configure Networks

The following steps must be performed on both the source and destination clusters.

External Network

From the Top Menu, click Networks -> List

Select the External network

From the left menu, click View

From the left menu, click Rules

Select the rule Sync Rule

From the left menu, click Enable

⚠️ Click Apply Rules to apply the changes.

Core Network

From the Top Menu, click Networks -> List

Select the Core network

From the left menu, click View

From the left menu, click Rules

Select the rule Sync Rule

From the left menu, click Enable

⚠️ Click Apply Rules to apply the changes.

Create Site

The initial site configuration steps should be performed on the source cluster.

From the Top Menu, click Backup / DR -> + New Site

Enter a Name for the site (e.g., korgrid_west1)

Set URL to the FQDN of the destination cluster (e.g., https://west1.korgrid.com)

Set User to the username of an administrative user on the destination cluster

Set Password to the password of the administrative user on the destination cluster

System Snapshots, select Send and receive system snapshots from this site

Sync Statistics, select Send and receive statistics from this site

(Optional), configure the desired statistic sync intervals

(Optional), Machine Management, select Allow bi-directional management of machines

Repair Server, select Enable bi-directional repair servers

Click Submit

Create Auto Sync

From the Top Menu, click Backup / DR -> Sites List

Select the desired site

From the left menu, click View

From the left menu, click Outgoing Syncs

Select the desired outgoing sync

From the left menu, click View

From the left menu, click Auto Sync Config

From the left menu, click New

Sync Snapshots From, select desired snapshot profile period

Set Remote Retention to the desired expiration timeout (e.g., 7 Days, 30 Days, etc.)

Set Prefix the snapshot name to the name of the source cluster (e.g., acme1, nyc-hq, etc.)

Click Submit

Advanced Configuration

Configure Sync Throttle

From the Top Menu, click Backup / DR -> Sites List

Select the desired site

From the left menu, click View

From the left menu, click Outgoing Syncs

Select the desired outgoing sync

From the left menu, click Edit

Select Advanced

Set Send throttle to the desired rate (e.g., 100 Mb/s, 1 Gb/s, etc.)

Click Submit
